Seven years ago I began working with breast cancer patients. My work with these brave ladies along with 25 years of health research convinced me that many chronic diseases, including cancer, are caused or exacerbated by chemicals in our environment, food and personal care products.
There are many things out of our control such as air pollution and crop spraying. However, we can choose what we put IN and ON our bodies and what we use to clean our homes. For years, I have been searching for a company that produces personal care and cleaning products which contain no harmful chemicals. When I have come across a company I think "might be it", I research the individual ingredients in their products. While some companies are better than others, their products still contain some chemicals that are unacceptable and not something I would recommend for cancer patients. The FDA does not regulate cosmetics and personal care products. The FDA website states: "Companies and individuals who manufacture or market cosmetics have a legal responsibility to ensure the safety of their products. Neither the law nor FDA regulations require specific tests to demonstrate the safety of individual products or ingredients. The law also does not require cosmetic companies to share their safety information with FDA."
There are chemicals in the products we use: shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, make-up. Even baby products! While some of these chemicals are safe, there are many which are carcinogenic or toxic to the nervous or reproductive system. Nevertheless, the toxic chemicals in these products are considered "safe" on a stand alone basis. What has not been considered is the combined effect of these so-called "safe" products we use daily. We all use 6 to 12 personal products a day (not counting the cleaning products we use). The cummulative effect of the combined use of these products over long periods of time has not been scientifically studied. Common sense says this long-term exposure cannot be good for us.
I have become so frustrated that I started making my own lotions and deodorants. For example, I make the foot cream that I use in my massage clinic. Recently, I stumbled across a company that makes personal care products that are non-toxic and most ingredients are USDA certified organic. Their product line includes: soaps, make-up, nail polish, shampoo, lotions as well as many other things. They even have their own line of USDA essential oils. The ingredients they use are some of the same ones I have used in my products. The company is small and all products are made in small batches by the owner and a few other people. She makes all her products in the back of her store in New Jersey. The founder is a certified aromatherapist and started the company after a close relative was diagnosed with breast cancer and was frustrated by the lack of non-toxic products. (See the attached video). I am so impressed with this company that I have become one of their representatives. If you would like more information you can go to:
